Here is my experience with a damaged tree.
First, as stated elsewhere, typically the trees to be saved are flagged (family business for many years).
Now, I lived in the woods,. A truck ran off the road and hit a small tree in my yard. It totaled the truck (rollover). The 2-3" diameter tree maybe 12' tall (oak, hickory, poplar, whatever) was knocked over. Once I heard about the wreck, I called the police and got the drivers insurance.
I called and explained they my tree was trashed, and would they come out and look it over. Again, I lived on 30 acres of land. They asked for an estimate, so I called a nursery. The price was $1500 to replace.
I was embarrassed to call the insurance company back, but I did. When they asked, I hemmed and hawed and told them what price I got. I felt bad.
Again, this was 1 small tree in 30 acres.
Before I could say another word, they asked where to send the check (site unseen). I said screw it, and told them my address and three days later I had $1500.
Moral is, get their insurance company involved.
You will be shocked on what they may offer. [Post edited by 48zip at 04/06/2018 2:26PM]
